Clause 97

lists the purposes of a committal proceeding which include—

determining whether an indictable offence is appropriate to be heard and determined summarily;

determining whether there is evidence of sufficient weight to support a conviction;

determining how the accused proposes to plead to the charge; and

ensuring that there is a fair trial, if the accused is committed for trial.
