Clause 53

sets out what the Magistrates' Court may do at a mention hearing. This includes—
if the charge is for an indictable offence that may be heard and determined summarily, grant a summary hearing;
fix a date for a contest mention hearing or summary hearing;
proceed immediately to hear and determine the charge; or
make any other order or give any direction the court considers necessary.
