requires the Magistrates' Court to ask an accused who is unrepresented on the return date and who is charged with an offence punishable by imprisonment whether they have sought legal advice. If satisfied that the accused has not had a reasonable chance to do so, the court must grant an adjournment if the accused so requests. The court must also inform an accused of their right, if eligible, to legal aid, which is consistent with section 25(2)(e) of the Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities.
