allows a party to a criminal proceeding to appear in various ways, including personally, by a legal practitioner (or another person empowered by law to appear for the party) or, in the Magistrates' Court in the case of informants who are police officers, by a police prosecutor. Additionally, in certain circumstances, a party may appear by any other prescribed person or class of persons under specified provisions of the Sentencing Act 1991 and the Infringements Act 2006.
