Clause 219

allows an accused on arraignment to plead not guilty to the offence charged but guilty to another offence of which the accused might be found guilty. The consequences of pleading guilty to another offence are the same as if the other offence had been charged in the indictment. For instance, an accused charged with murder may plead not guilty to that charge but guilty to manslaughter.
