Clause 222

provides a simple power authorising the judge to address the jury at any time in the trial on any matter relevant to the jury in the performance of its functions and its understanding of the trial process. It includes by giving directions on any issue of law, evidence and procedure, addressing the jury on issues anticipated to arise and commenting on the relevance of any admissions made or matters determined before trial. This clause incorporates and expands on the contents of section 14 of the Crimes (Criminal Trials) Act 1999.
