46 References to the Sovereign

(1)In an Act or subordinate instrument a reference to the Sovereign reigning at the time of the passing of the Act or making of the subordinate instrument shall, unless the contrary intention appears, be construed as a reference to the Sovereign for the time being.
(2)Unless the contrary intention appears, in an Act or a subordinate instrument

(a)if the Sovereign for the time being is the Queen—
(i)a reference to "His Majesty" is to be construed as a reference to "Her Majesty"; and
(ii)a reference to "the King" is to be construed as a reference to "the Queen"; and
(b)if the Sovereign for the time being is the King—
(i)a reference to "Her Majesty" is to be construed as a reference to "His Majesty"; and
(ii)a reference to "the Queen" is to be construed as a reference to "the King".
